What insights can a historical probe into medieval scientific debates offer us? What role did scholarly disputations play in the “popularization of science” at the time? And which historical figures took part in them? Quodlibeta—lectures on general scientific topics ranging from grammar, physics, and optics to medicine and metaphysics—are the focus of research by historian and philosopher Ota Pavlíček. For his study of quodlibeta, he was awarded the Neuron Prize for Promising Scientists in January this year. In an in-depth article on the Czech Television news portal ČT24, he reveals what these “interdisciplinary meetings” of scholars can uncover for us today. https://ct24.ceskatelevize.cz/clanek/veda/stredoveke-vedecke-konference-popularizovaly-vedu-cesky-vedec-popsal-roli-jana-husa-358080
